Creative John-James Laidlow

A short autoethnographic documentary about growing up different, surviving psychiatry and peeling potatoes. Content note: I accidentally cut myself slightly during filming so there is a little bit of blood visible at certain points.

We are happy to introduce John-James Laidlow who has made the following film based on his own mental health experiences. Here's what John-James had to say...

"I’ve been in the mental health system my whole adult life and even before that my parents took me to the GP several times as a child for what was deemed ‘behavioural issues’ but all the treatments I’ve ever have were focussed on suppressing symptoms and getting me back to ‘normal’. In the last year I’ve been trying to find a space where I can safely express myself fully and working with a therapist to try to tell my story in my own words."
